The Vintage NYC Magazine staff is passionate about giving back. At least twice a year Editor-In-Chief, Amelia Meloni selects a non-profit group to feature in the magazine, on the website, and at events. In the upcoming fourth issue, we are pleased to announce Project Plié seeks to combine training and support of ballet students from communities previously underrepresented in American ballet companies with the creation of a nationwide network of partner professional ballet companies who are committed to diversity. In addition, Project Plié will include a new partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to introduce participants to ballet and identify children for future training.
Vintage NYC Magazine Presents Behind the Scenes Of Winter Issue, "Fabulous Moms", Cover Girl Coco
We wanted to take you to some of the behind the scenes photos with our Winter Cover Girl "Coco". As you can see it was a labor of love! And Love is what we absolutely felt with the beautiful makeup, hair, fashions and jewels that were provided for the shoot. As you can see Spartacus and Maximus totally enjoyed themselves! The presence of "Ice-T" just completed this family photo shoot. Coco is a vision of beauty and the camera loves her. The Garden City Hotel was the perfect elegant background for our photo shoot. Coco was destined to be our winter issue "Cover Girl" featuring moms. We hope you enjoyed this little tease from behind the scenes. We cannot wait to present the entire photo shoot and story in our upcoming winter issue.

In our current issue "Fabulous Moms", we are pleased to feature NDSS. The mission of the National Down Syndrome Society is to be the national advocate for the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
" FIREBIRD" MISTY Copeland ....
In 2007, Misty Copeland made history by becoming the third African American soloist and first in two decades, at American Ballet Theatre. Born in Kansas, Missouri and raised in San Pedro, California, Misty took her first ballet class at 13, an advanced age to begin this traditional art form. Training at the San Pedro Dance Center, Misty was en pointe within three months. Soon after she starred as Clare in The Chocolate Nutcracker, the Debbie Allen narrated African American version of the Nutcracker.
At age 15, Misty won first place in the prestigious Los Angeles Spotlight awards prompting the Los Angeles Times to name her as the Best Young Dancer in the Greater Los Angeles Area. After winning Spotlight, Misty accepted a full scholarship to attend San Francisco Ballet’s summer intensive program. Subsequently, Misty began training at The Lauridsen Ballet Center in Southern California. Misty was once again offered a full scholarship in 2000 to attend American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensive Program and was also declared ABT’s National Coca Cola Scholar. At the completion of the Summer Intensive, among 150 dancers, Misty was one of six girls chosen to join American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company.
Additionally, Misty was asked to accompany the main company on their China tour. In 2001 Misty joined ABT’s Corps De Ballet. In 2002 Misty was selected by ABT’s director, Kevin McKenzie, to compete for the Princess Grace Award. In 2007 Mr. McKenzie again chose Misty to compete for the Erik Bruhn Prize. He promoted Misty that same year to the rank of Soloist with American Ballet Theatre, and she became the first African American female in two decades to earn the position of Soloist. In 2008, Misty was honored with the Leonore Annenberg Fellowship in the Arts. This two year fellowship is awarded to young artists who exhibit extraordinary talent, providing them additional resources in order to attain their full potential. READ MORE.............

Dson tell us what does the son of a super talent do in life?
I would say you get comfortable with who you are and take life from there. It took me a while to embody who and what my dad did. When I finally got it, I was able to enjoy my dads music. When I decided I wanted to, not just follow in my dads footsteps but enter that world as me, I got serious about the music. I wanted to get comfortable with who I was without ruining my families name. You cannot fake your way through music. People are too educated for that.
Does that put some pressure on you to succeed?
The pressure to fail is there but I try not to let that be the focus of my journey. A lot of kids from Icons fail because they try to recreate that parent. That never works. What I bring to the table is me. Nothing else will succeed. I cannot be a copy of my dad. He's already done that. My dad is a talent with a capitol "T". He is so supportive. Being creative is a work in progress. I write a verse at a time then walk away and then say oh yeah I gotta get back to that. I write as I feel it. I would like to get to writing a song a day.There is a lot of pressure as the son of "DMC". I will either succeed or fail. There is no in-between. His advice to me is to be the "King of my kingdom"...don't try to be him. You are you and all that comes with that. To succeed it has to come from me and be who I am. As a father he gives me that freedom. No boundaries! Just go out and create who I am. I believe that is what I am working at. My dad has had great advice. Why would I not ask the best? His advice serves to guide my journey but he has let go of the reigns. He wants to see who I am. It will never work by being a copy of my dad. And I would never disrespect him by doing that. That would be too easy and transparent. The struggle and pressure comes from not wanting to disappoint. I am trying to relax and let the creative process guide me. If this is my destiny then I cannot fail.
Who inspires you?
I would say my mom and dad. My parents have given me all the tools to succeed and then they let me go. My mom has been a guiding light in my life from the beginning. She is a strong force with the love of a mom. My dad invented himself and then became a super star in the process. I love the strength and determination that took.
